"Reading Software: Finding the Right Program" - National Center of Technology InformationThis article published on LDOnline.org, is a resource for finding databases that can best serve to help you locate interventions for students with reading disabilities. The authors include a synopsis of 5 sites that are useful when determining what software to purchase, and how it can impact the students that you are teaching. I highly recommend this site! |
Tidy Read - Chrome Add-onTidyRead is an add-on for the Google Chrome browser that allows students to increase and decrease the size of the font they are reading, change the colors on the site, and remove images that may be distracting to them in an article. Addtionally, this add-on "cleans up" articles to make them look more like an e-book, and can print the articles in the cleaned up format. This resource is very valuable to students who are easily distracted by too much text on a page, or too many images embeded in text. It is also helpful for students who have visual impairments that make it difficult for them to read a traditional web page. This add-on works seamlessly within the browser, and has a very small learning curve. |
No Squint 2.1.2 - Mozilla Firefox Add-onNo Squint 2.1.2 allows the user to change the font size on web pages. It also allows them to change the colors of a web page and remove the images from the site, similar to TidyRead. The add-on also pulls out key ideas by color coding them for the user. Squint 2.1.2 offers very nice pop-up supports to help with navigating the add-on. This add-on would be helpful for students who are distracted by busy websites or students who have visual difficulties such as color blindness or limited vision. |
